We are pleased to announce a new partnership for 2010 that will have a great benefit to the athletes who support our events. The biggest request for our events is more support on the bike/run courses to assist the athletes to let them know what direction they need to go! In addition to all course maps, course signage and public safety officials we are now partnering with the Johnson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service. This new partnership will bring many benefits to the athletes and we've outlined them below. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

  • Course Safety: Safety is the top priority for any event in the water or on the road! We will be utilizing the radio services of Johnson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service to track athletes at all times. Each radio operator/corner marshal will have direct contact with all public safety officials at all times. This will give our staff one more level of communication with public safety officials as well as an exact idea of where the athletes are located. Dedicated SAG Vehicles will be on course and will be tracked Via Live GPS to ensure another level of course safety.
  • Medical Support: In addition to our Medical Team Global Event Medicine we will have the support of the Johnson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service to coordinate communication between the two groups. This will provide top level safety and medical support that is unmatched by anyone. Each radio operator/corner marshal will have direct contact with all public safety officials and our Medical Team at all times.
  • Directing athletes: On each corner of the bike and run courses a radio operator/corner marshal will be placed to assist the athletes with which direction they need to go! This is in addition to the normal course signage that leads up to each turn. We still ask that you review all course maps as it is ultimately your responsibility to know the course. This will eliminate ANY chance of athletes missing any turns or heading in the wrong direction! Each corner will still have a dedicated Police or Sheriff's Officer as in the past.
  • Parking: Parking must have direction and control or things can go bad from the beginning of the event. We will now have parking attendants at each event in addition to any Park Rangers to assist athletes when they arrive in the early hours of race day. This will help keep things in an orderly fashion and utilize every parking space possible.

With the tragic earthquake hitting Haiti it makes everyone in the world want to lend a hand for those in need. Many of you have probably given to those in need already but we all have an opportunity to give more! The Midwest Mayhem Triathlon, Jackson County Triathlon and Midwest Meltdown Triathlon has partnered with a very giving charitable organization called the Global Orphan Project. For 2010 and beyond we will be working hand-in-hand with Global Orphan Project on relief projects in Haiti. After speaking with Cycle City owner, triathlete and event sponsor Joe Fox we discovered there will be a run/walk held on May 8th in Parkville, Missouri called Go Project Run to benefit those in Haiti. Joe stated “All of the details are being put together as we speak and we’ll be sure to fill you in very soon, we’ve been very busy coordinating our current trip to Haiti.”

The Global Orphan Project team of four is headed to Haiti on the morning of January 19th from KCI. The group will be taking 300 pounds of baby formula, medical supplies, anti-biotics and clothing donated by the Midwest Mayhem Triathlon, Jackson County Triathlon and Midwest Meltdown Triathlon. The group includes Rob Boyer, Mike Helmuth, Beth Fox and Joe Fox owner of Cycle City. They will be meeting with 6 others who have been on ground in Haiti for 5 days, including C3 founder Mike Fox, and Executive Director Joe Knittig.

Above and beyond The Global Orphan Project, there are some amazing folks who are stepping up in great ways to help: Ed Barber and a Buckhead church team from Atlanta are filling a 20ft container full of tents, tools, clothing, medical supplies and baby formula that will ship out of Miami on Wednesday, January 20th and arrive in the Dominican Republic on Saturday, January 23rd.
If you would like to donate anything that would be of assistance please visit www.theglobalorphanproject.org for more information. There is an immediate need for medical supplies and baby formula. Thanks for lending a helping hand!
